The 2010 Aussie Author Challenge, start here!

Challenge starts 1 January 2010 and ends 31 December 2010

2 challenge levels - TOURIST and FAIR DINKUM!

TOURIST - Read and review 3 books by 3 different Australian authors
FAIR DINKUM - Read and review 8 books by Australian authors (a minimum of 5 different Australian authors)

To suggest a few of my favorites:
  • Marcus Zusak's The Book Thief
  • Tim Winton's The Riders, Dirt Music, Cloudstreet, The Turning or Minimum of Two
  • Robert Hughe's The Fatal Shore (non fiction)
  • John Hepworth's WWII Drama, The Long Green Shore
  • Peter Carey's True History of the Kelly Gang
My Aussie challenge "to read" list includes:
  • Peter Carey's My Life as a Fake and Jack Maggs
  • Andrew McGahan's The White Earth
  • Peter Temple's The Broken Shore
  • Tim Winton's In the Winter Dark and Lands Edge (if I can find them and afford them)
  • Kate Grenville's The Secret River
  • Peter Carey's Oscar and Lucinda
  • Eucalyptus

  1. I have been meaning to read MY life as a Fake for so long, maybe I should finally get to it. And the Winton titles sound interesting, I have not read those, must look them up.

  2. Wait! You haven't read Tim Winton? Isn't that part of Australian rules for existence? I'd love to know what you think of them. Cloudstreet is superior, but The Riders really has a fascinating story line...a husband goes to Ireland to set up house for his wife and daughter who are coming from Australia. The child (about 9) arrives alone on the plane. The rest is the story. Hard to put down. The whole premise was just wild. Let me know what you think!

  3. I highly recommend Autumn Castle by Kim Wilkins or any of her other books if you can get your hands on them. Autumn Castle is just my favorite.
